Cervical Cancer Screening (previous known as the "pap smear" or "pap test")

In December 2017, major changes were made to the way we screen for cervical cancer.

There is further information in the links below but in summary:

  • The procedure at the doctors feels the same, sorry no escaping the speculum exam

  • Testing now starts from age 25 

  • Testing will be every 5 years (instead of 2) from the ages of 25 to 74

  • If you have symptoms such as bleeding after intercourse or ANY post menopausal bleeding you should see your doctor sooner for a diagnostic cervical test.

The aim of the Australasian Menopause Society is advancement of knowledge about the menopause. They host some videos from the International Menopause Society (IMS) that are 'easy-to-understand so that women can access reliable information about what the menopause is, how it might affect them and how to choose safe and effective treatment options.
